Uzo Aduba was born on February 10, 1981 in the USA. She is the daughter of a family from Nigeria. She grew up in Medfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Medfield High School in 1999. She studied classical vocal at Boston University and competed in athletics. She describes her family as a “sports family”. Her younger brother Obi played hockey at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and continued to play professionally for six seasons.
Aduba was first recognized for her acting in 2003 when she received a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Play for her performance in Translations of Xhosa at the Olney Theater Center for the Arts. Aduba played the character of Amphiarus at the New York Theater Workshop in 2006 and again at La Jolla Playhouse in 2008. In 2007, she made her Broadway debut by playing Toby in Helen Edmundson’s Coram Boy adaptation at the Imperial Theater. Her first television debut was as a nurse on Blue Bloods in 2012.
She also starred in the upcoming romantic drama movie Really Love. In October 2020, Aduba performed the fourth season of the HBO series In Treatment, with therapist Dr. She took on the role of Brooke Lawrence.
