Amy Adams was born on 20 August 1974 in Italy. She is the middle child with four brothers and two sisters. When she was eight years old, she settled in Castle Rock, Colorado. Her father was in the US military. After leaving the army, her father sang professionally in nightclubs and restaurants. Adams describes going to her father’s shows and drinking Shirley Temples in the bar among her best childhood memories.
Known for both comedy and dramatic performances, she has been featured three times in the annual ranking of the highest paid actresses in the world. She trained to be a ballerina, but at the age of 18 she found musical theater more appropriate and acted in theaters between 1994-1998. She also made her first feature film a supporting role in Drop Dead Gorgeous in 1999.
After moving to Los Angeles, she appeared as a guest actor on television and took on “brutal girl” roles in small-scale movies. She played her first major role opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Steven Spielberg’s 2002 biopic Catch Me If You Can, but was later unemployed for a year. Her breakthrough took place in the role of a chatty pregnant woman in the 2005 independent film Junebug.
