Miranda Cosgrove was born on May 14, 1993, to Tom and housewife Chris (née Casey), a dry-cleaning business in the United States. She is of English, Irish, and French descent. She was discovered by a talent manager when she was three years old while singing and dancing at Taste of L.A. in Los Angeles. After accepting the offer, she appeared in television commercials for McDonald’s and Mello Yello, and also modeled. At the age of seven she auditioned for theater and television roles.
Cosgrove’s first television show (other than commercials) was featured in the 2001 pilot episode of Smallville as the voice of young Lana Lang. Cosgrove later made his debut in the 2003 movie School of Rock, in a movie directed by Richard Linklater. School of Rock grossed more than $ 131,282,949 worldwide. Cosgrove’s acting in the film was praised and Newsweek’s David Ansen described it as “spot on.” In 2004, Cosgrove got her first major role in a television series when she co-starred with Drake Bell and Josh Peck in the Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh. She played Megan Parker, the mischievous sister of the protagonists in the drama.
Cosgrove made her singer debut with the iCarly theme song “Leave It All to Me” featuring Drake Bell and was released as a single on December 2, 2007. In June 2008, Columbia Records released the iCarly soundtrack, featuring four songs voiced by Cosgrove, and debuted at number one on the Billboard Kid Albums chart.
On February 15, 2013, it was announced that Cosgrove will star in the television series Girlfriend in a Coma, written by Liz Brixius for NBC and based on Douglas Coupland’s novel of the same name. In May 2015, Cosgrove starred in NBC comedy pilot Crowded, created by Suzanne Martin with producer Sean Hayes. She revived the role of Margo once again in the movie Despicable Me 3, released on June 14, 2017. She portrayed the role of Lisa Brown in the movie 3022 in 2019. She’s been the host of the CBS TV show Mission Unstoppable since 2020.
She wanted to be a veterinarian before she became an actress. She was an only child and homeschooled from the sixth grade. She was accepted into New York University and the University of Southern California (USC) in 2011. She started going to USC in the fall of 2012.
