Kali Uchis was born in the United States on July 17, 1994. After her father fled the conflicts in Colombia, Pereira moved to the United States from Colombia. Kali’s mother had children from a previous marriage. When she was in high school, her father moved back to Colombia to care for her ill mother. Uchis stayed in Colombia with her father and aunts throughout the summer. She grew up in an immigrant and working-class household. In high school, she learned to play the piano and saxophone. T.C. She joined a jazz band before graduating from Williams High School. She was kicked out of her home in her teens for running away from school and breaking a curfew set by her family. During this time, she lived in her car. She also wrote poetry, songs and music, but initially did not intend to sing, rather she wanted to be a film director rather than a spotlight. Her father gave her the nickname” Kali Uchis”.

Shortly after graduating, Uchis released her first mixtape, Drunken Babble, On August 1, 2012. In 2014, she co-appeared with rapper Snoop Dogg on the song “on Edge” for her mixtape, that’s my Work 3. In 2015, she embarked on her first tour with Leon Bridges and toured parts of the United States and Canada.
