Jihyo was born on February 1, 1997 in South Korea. JYP Entertainment followed Jihyo after taking part in a competition in Junior Naver and sitting in second place. He then joined JYP Entertainment as an intern at the age of eight and trained for ten years before his debut. He trained with many JYP idols such as Sunmi, Bae Suzy, Jo Kwon and Nichkhun. A contest was held to select Twice founding members. He legally changed his name to Jihyo before the competition. As one of the nine successful participants, she joined the newly formed girl group Twice. Although not the oldest member of the group, Jihyo was later elected by the group friends as an anonymous voting leader.
In October 2015, Twice officially debuted with the release of their first mini album. The first K-pop song to reach 100 million views on YouTube with the lead single “Like Ooh-Ahh”.
