Catherine Zeta-Jones was born on September 25, 1969 in England. She was born to David Jones, the owner of a dessert factory, and to her tailor wife Patricia (née Fair). Her father is Welsh and her mother is Irish Catholic. It is named after her grandmothers Zeta Jones and Catherine Fair. She has an older brother named David and a brother named Lyndon she. Because she was a hyperactive boy, her mother sent him to Hazel Johnson Dance School when she was four.
As a child she starred in West End productions of the Annie and Bugsy Malone musicals. She studied musical theater at Arts Educational Schools in London and made her stage breakthrough with the lead role in the 1987 production of 42nd Street. She later moved to Los Angeles.
